Emily Wilde is an inquisitive and curious dryadologist who finds herself scouring the world of Faerie with her companion Wendell Bambleby. Along the way she uses her growing knowledge on the Faeries to embark on dangerous missions to save the people she grows to care about.
What I Loved About the Series
The 'Emily Wilde' series by Heather Fawcett is by far one of the fastest series I have ever read since I was a young teenager. The story is emotionally compelling and lead with tension that was just begging to be released. I honestly could not put the book down.
I wished I had the opportunity to grow up in Emily Wilde's world of faeries. After finishing the series all I wanted to do was study dryadology, studying in historic rooms at Cambridge alongside Emily and Wendell. Fawcett's world building is phenomenal to the point where I truly believed this fantasy world existed in place of our own.
The detail that went into the world building truly made the series what it is. Fawcett uses footnotes to weave in seemingly scientific evidence into the thickening plot, creating a rich and meaningful story. The consistent lore tied the story together with a neat, yet fabulously detailed bow.
Fawcett has a distinct and powerful control of the English language which truly makes her prose come alive. Since reading the series I have found myself more interested in expanding my vocabulary and even attempting to speak more eloquently.
Some Drawbacks
Of course, not every series is perfect. Despite my very apparent approval of this series, it may not be for everyone. Keep these points in mind if you're looking to invest in the story.
The language is highly sophisticated. If you prefer a book made up of familiar words, then the series may not be for you.
The footnotes may seem endlessly daunting to read. I too found myself much too tired to bother reading every single footnotes, particularly the longer ones. Perhaps when I read the series again I will go back and pay more attention to the intricacies of the Fae lore.
The storyline is so addicting you will be so disappointed every time you realize you must return back to the human world.
Yay or Nay?
The 'Emily Wilde' series is a big YAY for me.
